The Wastewater Services Department is primarily responsible for managing and maintaining the infrastructure that collects, treats and disposes wastewater and sewage, islandwide.

Services include:

Undertaking repairs to sewer lines, installation of sewer lines (sewer connections), clearing of sewer blockages, sludge, grease traps, flushing lines, and emptying of septic tanks.

Conducting preventative maintenance of the wastewater treatment plants, monitoring and adjusting treatment processes, carrying out inspections and performing laboratory quality tests of the treated water.

Maintenance of Pumping Stations used to pump raw water to the treatment plants, treated water to the distribution network and sewer to the wastewater treatment facility and wet wells. Regular checks are conducted at all pumping stations to ensure that the equipment is working efficiently and any remedial mechanical or electrical work is undertaken promptly.

The goal of the wastewater department is to safeguard public health, preserve the environment, and sustain the quality of life by removing contaminants from wastewater before its returned to the environment. The department ensures compliance with regulations, designs and operations for wastewater treatment efficiency.

WASCO operates and maintains two sewer networks in Saint Lucia - the Castries Sewer Network serving Castries City and its environs, and the Beausejour Sewer Network serving the north of the island, particularly the Rodney Bay and Gros-Islet areas.
